The Journey 5: Face the Future with Faith Not Fear
In this week’s Journey Step, I spoke of how in 1988, I began to volunteer with the Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation. Created by the actor Hugh O’Brian who starred in a weekly TV Series, Wyatt Erp in the 1950s, he created this 3 day leadership seminar designed to teach high school students about the American free enterprise system.
Working with the Hugh O’Brian Youth foundation got me to thinking about how I might become an entrepreneur. Though the process of going into business for myself was frightening, it was another huge step in my journey. I was on my way to accomplishing my second of three goals, to earn a living doing what I enjoy. I discussed Ecclesiastes 5:19-20, which says:
“Furthermore, as for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, He has also empowered him to eat from them and to receive his reward and rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God. For he will not often consider the years of his life, because God keeps [d]him occupied with the gladness of his heart.”
I discovered that by stepping out in faith to take ownership of my work exposed me to new opportunities. I never made much money with my newsletter, Indiana Issues, it in turn led to still other opportunities. But I learned to face the future with faith, not fear.
